Rules for Electric Scooters, Bikes, and Similar Devices on School Property
To balance student independence with safety, the following rules apply to electric scooters, bikes, e-bikes, skateboards, and similar devices on school property:
Use and Operation
- Students may ride electric scooters, bikes, and similar devices on the sidewalks of school property, provided they do so in a safe and responsible manner.
- Excessive speed, reckless riding, creating safety hazards, or endangering others is prohibited and will result in disciplinary action and potential loss of riding privileges.
- Riders must yield to pedestrians and use extra caution near building entrances, sidewalks, and high-traffic areas.
- Helmets are strongly encouraged when operating these devices.
Parking and Storage
- Devices must be parked in designated bike racks or storage areas only.
- Electric scooters and e-bikes may not be brought inside school buildings unless pre-approved by administration.
- Devices left in non-designated areas may be relocated or secured by school staff.
Charging and Power
- Charging personal devices on school property is not permitted unless explicitly authorized by school administration.
Accountability and Liability
- The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged devices. Students are encouraged to secure their property with a lock.
- Any device that poses a safety hazard or causes disruption may be confiscated by school administration.
Behavior Expectations & Consequences
- Riding privileges may be revoked for any student who operates their device irresponsibly, violates these rules, or disregards staff directions.
- Students must comply with all state and local traffic laws when operating these devices on their way to and from school.
Special Circumstances
- Students who require electric devices as a mobility aid are exempt from these restrictions but must follow school safety guidelines.
- Any exceptions to these rules must be approved in writing by the principal.

Bennington Public Schools has updated our procedures for volunteers working with students. We truly value the time and talents our parents and caregivers share with our school community! If you plan to volunteer at school this year—whether in the classroom, at events, or on a field trip—please take a moment to review the new procedures. If you would like to volunteer, simply complete this application form, sign it, and return it to the school office where you hope to volunteer.
If you have filled out this form in the past and have already been approved, you’re all set—no need to complete it again. If you’re not sure of your status or have any questions, our office staff is happy to help. Just give the Bennington Elementary office a call at 402-238-2690.

To help keep our process safe and efficient, please review the following reminders:
-
Pull all the way forward to the end of the loop before stopping.
-
Do not leave large spaces between cars in the loop.
-
Students should enter and exit on the passenger side of the vehicle.
-
Keep the drive lane clear—do not stop or park in this lane.
-
Parents should remain in their cars. If you need extra time, please park in the north parking lot and walk up.
-
No dogs or pets are allowed during drop-off or pick-up.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe and the process running smoothly!
